Coach Profile

We are delighted and very privileged to have two talented young coaches coaching our Under 11 and Under 14 girls this year. Both have been part of the Southern Vipers (South of England Women’s team) emerging players program. Their cricketing experience speaks for itself and our girls are benefiting hugely from their input already. Good to have you on board Keira and Emily….

First X1 vs West Wittering

Wisborough Green travelled to West Wittering and battles it out on tricky wicket.

Stand in captain Junior won the toss and elected to field. After a slightly lively start, the skipper struck twice to remove both openers and leave the visitors wobbling. Opposing skipper then played the anchor role with a well-made 44, but regular wickets ensured Wittering never managed to build the sort of partnership needed to post a commanding total.

The middle overs belonged to Byron Napper and Oscar Warmington. Oscar produced an excellent spell to keep the pressure firmly on, while Napper tied down one end before picking up three wickets of his own. Josh May then cleaned up the tail in typically understated fashion, the significant turn enhancing his devastating quicker ball to finish with four wickets, including two in two balls at the end of the innings as West Wittering were restricted to 137

Chasing 138 looked a straightforward enough task on paper, although WG immediately set about making things more interesting. Byron Napper and Nick Klein were chosen to lead the chase, however, Napper departed without troubling the scorers. What followed was one of the more destructive cameos. Klein blasted 58 from just 31 balls, peppering the boundary and taking much of the jeopardy out of the chase before eventually falling with the score on 80.

At that stage, the game appeared all but done. Naturally, WG then suffered a wobble. Tommy Colbran grafted his way to a patient 20 from 55 balls. When he missed a straight one, momentum had shifted back to the home side, the score slipped from 110-3 to 111-6, West Wittering suddenly sensed an unlikely route back into the contest.

Fortunately, Josh May and Steve Talman kept their heads. May’s valuable 26 helped settle nerves before Steve Talman and Callum Price edged WG towards the target in what can only be described as a less-than-fluent finish. After a tense final few overs, Price eventually clipped the winning run to seal victory and complete a chase that had become far more dramatic than it ever needed to be.

A special mention should also go to Josh May. After five games of careful observation, reconnaissance and what can only be assumed was an extended bedding-in period, our overseas player finally decided to join the season. Josh produced his best all-round performance in WG colours, claiming four wickets in the first innings before contributing a valuable 26 during the chase. Having spent the first month convincing us he was a specialist fielder, it was reassuring to discover he can actually bat and bowl as well.

A match that should have been comfortable briefly became anything but, but another victory nonetheless and a strong all-round team performance with bat and ball. 30 points and up to 4th in the league!

Friday night training

Parking

Parking along the Kirdford road remains an issue for us during Friday night training. Last year an ambulance was unable to get through and had to drive across a section of the green to reach a sick patient in one of the properties in Wyatt Close, we clearly cannot have a repeat of this. We ask you to park at the Village Hall or Songhurst Meadow and walk to the green from there.

Kit

We have lots of information on our ‘Ordering Kit‘ web page including a link to the Gray Nicholls Store online store where kit can be purchased. The web page includes some useful videos on how to choose the right junior bat , how to choose the right bat size and how much you should spend on a junior bat. We have also included details of helmet sizes and a pads size guide.
