Congratulations to all those who made in onto our honours board this week
This week’s Highlights
Congratulations to Second X1 joint skipper Frank Vickery who married the lovely Hannah Matthews last weekend.
Frank in action at the crease shortly before stepping up and bowling his maiden over
What a great catch Frank !
Under 14 / Under 12 pairs cricket match
- Harry D & Harry H play sensibly as the opening pair to a hostile attack down the hill
- Issac and Wren show finesse and a deft touch whilst communicating clearly between the wickets
- Tom & Ran hit the bad balls to accumulate a very healthy total
- William G and Nathan show a healthy respect for the attack
- Pitch invasion by the wedding party sees Frank out first ball (and second ball) – accepting defeat is a good lesson in marriage!
- Fraser and Zac play aggressively against some unusually straight bowling
- Markus and Rufus struggle with some erratic bowling however keep their wickets intact
- Joe and Will D show no mercy / respect to the bowlers at the end
- Tom Bonney bowls older brother Joe Bonney in the last ball of the match
- Scorer Danny Bonney still trying to add up the scores despite claiming he has a maths qualification
Well done and thanks to all who participated – this game was played in good spirit and all contributed with bat and ball.
Under 14 vs Three Bridges
Well after a weather impacted start to the season, we managed to get approximately eight hours of cricket in this weekend. Well done to Joe Bonney and Will Dixon for winning the pairs event on Saturday. Highlight for me was obviously Tom Bonney bowling his older brother out on the last ball of the day but there were some really good cricket performances, especially from the u12s.
We duly stole these players for an outstanding win against Three Bridges Cricket Club on Sunday. Winning the toss, skipper Bonney elected to bat and smacked their quick opening bowler for two fours from the first two balls. We never looked back!! Bonney was bowled, suffering from a mixture of fatigue and sun cream in the eyes for a magnificent 32. Master Blaster Dixon came in at three and blasted a very well constructed 40 retired. Harry Hunter yet again in the runs with 24 along with Ran Dawson’s 27 not out. Harry “Buttler” Dancaster hit 10 off four balls and we finished 153 off our twenty overs.
A Dixon run out, first ball of the their innings put them on the back foot but their captain smashed a powerful 32 until Bonney cleaned him out with a deceptively slow straight one. Gareth Silvester chipped in with a wicket and Hamish Ramsay caught brilliantly off Devon Harwin. Harry Hunter had their number three caught by Bonney and the run rate climbed, leaving The Green with a comfortable 29 run victory.
The only negative was the grumbling of wicket keeper Dancaster who thought he had one of their batters caught behind. Umpire Klein, the ever faithful rocket finger, could not give the catch as the batteries of his hearing aid were probably flat. Coach Bonney was delighted with the victory although 13 wides was not what he expected or demanded. Guess what we are doing on Friday? Well done to Jamie and Ben for some good fielding and for debutant William Reed showing his class in the u14 league as an u11!!

News from Wisborough Green Sports : BIG TV FUND
Wisborough Green Sports are raising funds for a bigger TV downstairs. This will allow us to have the old TV upstairs which will be great when we have a clash of matches and will also allow people on the balcony and in the clubroom to keep an eye on scores while they’re waiting to bat or having tea. Both will be fully hooked up to Sky and BT Sport.
We’re very grateful to Andy Burbridge of Bittles Ltd for his corporate donation of £150 and to Mr Anonymous for their £50 personal donation. Please contact Michael Gadd (michael@gaddweb.co.uk) if you’re willing to dig deep!
In addition, we’re running a raffle behind the bar for a box-load of booze, there’s also a donation box on the bar for your change (biggest note so far = £20, thanks!!) and Ronnie is running a FIFA night on the 6th July including a Dan Dronsfield prepared chilli – only 5 tickets left – sign up at the bar!!
