Players letter 2018

12th March 2018 To All Wisborough Green Cricketers  Dear Cricketer Really looking forward to the summer ahead and getting some cricket on the Green again. We will welcome Mark Day our new overseas player, who will arrive from Australia in late April. Not only will Mark be adding to our playing strength as a batsman and spin bowler, but he will also be helping out with coaching and working on the Green. We have been working hard in various parts of the Cricket Section. Over the last 4 years or so the Club has invested in nets, a new roller, and during the winter a new wicket mower, so we can produce the best practice and match facilities possible. Steve Calder Smith has been working hard on Sponsors, and we are delighted to announce AJW again as our main Sponsor for this season. Many thanks are due to AJW for their help in Club development, and last year their payment enabled us to provide all players with cricket and training shirts with their logo on. We are hoping that sponsorship will raise upwards of £5000 for the club, and hope to confirm more sponsorship deals as well as exciting new ways in which we can help our sponsors add value to the club. I would like to welcome Nick Payne, as Captain of the 2nd X1, with Chris Francis and Frank Vickery as Vice Captains. I am sure they will do a great job. In the 1st Team Jonny Farmer has taken up the role of Vice Captain I am sure we will ‘hear from him’ during the season! Indoor nets will start on Thursday evenings – 29th March, 5th and 12th April from 6:30 to 7:30 at Cranleigh School. I haven’t booked weeks and weeks of nets as they lose impact, however I will expect everyone to turn up to these 3 sessions, before we get outside and use the matting nets. With Lena and JP moving abroad…..well almost…..we want to try and keep the teas up to Lena’s high standard and would welcome a few volunteers to make teas, even if it is only for 1 week. Please let me know, as the Cricks have offered to help as well and we need to coordinate. We have a few new players and I am sure you will see them on Saturdays, so please make them welcome. We have 2 friendly matches arranged: Saturday 28th April v Selsey and Sunday 29th April vs Alfold. Please make yourselves available for these matches. The league starts the following week. With the change in the league structure, it appears both the 1st and 2nd X1 have been promoted, and playing stronger teams, so please don’t just turn up expecting to do well – 4 good weeks of pre season preparation is needed. With the ‘Ryde Her Cup’ on 30th March about to kick off the season, and the Pre-season social on Saturday 28th April at the Cricks at 7:30pm……..it looks to be a good ‘social’ start to the season. You don’t need to confirm numbers on 28th just turn up for Drinks and Nibbles. A few administration points: 1) Every Year we need to register all players with their details, so please see link below to our online senior players registration form for the 2018 season. You will not be able to play or be insured if the following form is not completed. https://goo.gl/forms/IpY6JfjhC0wNpmit1 2) You will notice the registration fees are unchanged from last year and we have a number of options available:

  • Wisborough Green Cricket Club
  • Sort Code: 20-42-58
  • Account Number: 00968153
Please quote ‘Subs’ followed by your surname So in summary, a lot of work has happened in the winter, ……(you might notice the pavilion is looking tidier), the main bar has been redecorated and new furniture is going into the pav, the ladies toilets have been revamped and the gents toilets have been improved. We have agreed as a club to volunteer to help paint the outside of the building and we will set up a working party with the footballers to do so one week end. We hope as many of you as can put in a shift to help us all. With the hope of warmer weather over the next few weeks we look forward to the friendlies and a great summer ahead. Cheers, James Sadler 1st Team Captain and Head of Senior Cricket.
