If you want to sing along while watching the performance here are some of the lyrics :
This old pav still stands here proudly
This old pav is full of life
This old pav is pride of the village
As we play the sport of life
This old pav rings out with laughter
This old pav hears many shouts
But she stands dilapidated
While the plaster falls about
Ain’t a gonna need this pav no longer
Ain’t a gonna need this pav no more
Ain’t got time to fix the balcony
Ain’t got time to paint the floor
Ain’t got time to unblock the toilets
Nor mend those stinky drains
Ain’t a gonna need this pav no longer
She’s getting ready to be replaced
This old pav is getting shaky
This old pav is getting old
This old pav stinks like an ashtray
This old pav lets in the cold
On my knees like Kenny Vicky
But I feel no fear no pain
Cos I feel that Cliff is peekin
Through the broken window pain
Ain’t a gonna need this pav no longer
Ain’t a gonna need this pav no more
Ain’t got time to fix the balcony
Ain’t got time to paint the floor
Ain’t got time to unblock the toilets
Nor mend those stinky drains
Ain’t a gonna need this pav no longer
She’s getting ready to be replaced

On a very hot day at the end of August the Green was looking good but lush after some August rain storms.
Selsey could be an awkward opponent as they are in the relegation zone and very determined to stay up, so we had to be on our game. We lost the toss and were put into bat, on a drying wicket.
It wasn’t long before Wisborough were in trouble, with Benjamin Steyn looking all at sea after a week on tour in Ireland…trapped LBW on the crease. Nick Wadlow batted well and kept the ball out but Stuart Davey and James Self came and went in quick succession.
Sadler joined Wadlow with the score on 10 for 3. They started to rebuild the innings before Wadlow went for 18 and the score moved to 48 for 4. Dodd joined Sadler who was still batting cautiously to rebuild the innings. Dodd and Sadler got the score to 134 before Sadler was caught and bowled.
George Nicholls joined Dodd and played a great little Cameo of 22 not out, whilst Dodd was now in full flight smashing the ball to all parts. Dodd finishing on an excellent 76 not out and the score totalled 184 for 5.
In a tactical change Chris Marshall opened the bowling at the bottom end with Benjamin Steyn running in from the top end. It wasn’t long before the flight and guile of Marshall had Selsey batsmen in all sorts of trouble with Chris claiming the first 4 wickets in a spell of 4 for 20. One of Chris’s wickets was superbly caught one handed by George Nicholls.
Steyn bowled with aggression but seemed to leave his cricket brain in Ireland – 6 Overs 0 for 25. Sizzey Carter replaced Marshall at the bottom end and bowled well with great control ending on 3 for 15.
Jamie Self bowled his usual tidy spell and claimed a wicket whilst Tim Dodd cleaned up the tail with 2 for 22.
An excellent all round performance but the score of 185 could easily have been 100.
Look forward to a date with East Preston next week and some fun at the after party!
Seconds vs Eastergate
Wizzy 2s gain important win against Eastergate – Junior and Joey lead with the bat and Vickery shines with ball
After the excesses of Wisborough Green’s got talent the night before the 2nds were greeted to a hot and barmy day at Eastergate. The skipper’s hangover meant that after winning the toss and electing to bat, he retired to marshal the score book and plan the batting line up. Job done, the new opening partnership of Junior and Farms took to the field. Dan, who made the long journey down from London was in at number 5, and diligently put his pads on for a light net session before waiting his turn to bat.
Junior got off to a flyer as the young opener struggled with length and line whilst Farms was more circumspect requiring three or four overs before he could see just one ball. Runs flowed and Wizzy had amassed 60 off the first 10 overs. Farms was a little impatient than Junior, and dehydration was taking its toll and he was first out having built a strong foundation. “Harry the Hair” played exactly the right shot to a short ball, but slightly mistimed it and was caught which brought Joey to the wicket with the score on 73.
Dan retired to the gents to prepare himself for his innings as Joey and Junior started to build a partnership. Cautiously at first, but with increasing fluency the pair ticked the scoreboard over and Junior started to show his range of shots. Hard to do on a low bouncing wicket and with a number of yorkers that needed to be dug out from the persistent Rew Reid.
As the pair continued to bat, the skipper revised his target for the rest of the batsmen, from 200 to 220. However no further batsmen were required. Junior and Joey continued to punish the tiring attack and the score grew. Joey passed 50, his first for the club, and Junior went on to post his first 100. At the end of 40 overs the pair had put on an unbeaten partnership of 171 for the third wicket and poor Dan was still sitting waiting to go in in his pads.
After a great tea, and with Lesley having arrived to score the team set out to claim full points. A quick start was the plan and Harry delivered in his first over and again soon after dismissing the number 3. The Eastergate opener and the number 4 were determined to start a fight back. The skipper set restrictive fields and the game rolled along with Eastergate falling behind the run rate but still posing a threat with these two at the wicket. Leon bowled some good balls which beat the bat, Farms was tried but no further wickets fell. Dan broke the deadlock, with a piece of magical fielding, a run out from square leg with a direct hit at the non-striker’s end.
Farms picked up a wicket and Junior then made the run rate almost impossible by tying up the opener who was well set and he also picked up a couple of wickets. The coup de grace was delivered by Dan, who took 3 wickets for 2 in a reminder to the skipper of his all-round cricketing talents before heading back up to London.
A big thanks to Toby Sedgwick for standing in and helping the team out in the field. Great to see you back in cricket whites
A big win was delivered, which jumped Wizzy to third in the table and we face Chichester in the last match of the season to see which of the 2 clubs will be promoted.
