Match reports

First X1 vs Arundel

Weather beaten again

  • win the toss and bowl, if we can get their top 4 early we are in with a good chance of beating the rain
  • big early breakthrough with Jr removing Challen (leading league run scorer) – with Wolfie taking a sharp catch
  • Arundel’s strong top order dig in and prove stubborn to remove
  • Will eventually getting the other opener to make it 92-2 after 20 overs
  • Wolfie bowls nicely with no reward
  • Vickery brings himself on to buy a wicket and that he does with Horne going for 90, Colbran with the catch
  • Arundel looked to be getting away but green claw them back at the end with wickets tumbling fast – post 255 for 7 in 40 overs – probably 40 more than they should have got with some sloppy fielding and plenty of wides
  • Vickery out cheaply in the first over to make it 2 for 1
  • Arundel get chirpy
  • Klein and Colbran respond in style
  • Klein hits second over for 20 (5 boundaries)
  • Tommy hits next over for 14
  • Klein makes even more damage in the 4th over, with the opener ending with figures of 2 overs, none for 42
  • Arundel suddenly become less chirpy with boundary fielders diving all over the place to no avail
  • Tommy goes hard again
  • Klein hits 14 off of the first change bowler, bringing up his 50 in just 16 balls
  • rain gets heavier and we never make it back out
  • in 7 overs Klein and Tommy put on 78 and Wis were only 177 behind, another 93 balls was all we needed at the rate we were going…….

Second X1 vs Goring

A very disappointing afternoon – two teams very keen to play, a very boggy wicket and a terrible forecast conspired against us. Invited to bat WGCC made pretty good go of the situation.

Alex Martin showed everyone what we know he’s capable of and posted a classy 31, Callum dug in for 60, and Tim, Jack, and Monty all got starts but failed to capitalise. 185 for 9 off 40 in fairly constant drizzle.

The heavens then opened, and despite valiant effort we could only manage 7 overs before their skipper called us off and we retired for beer and hot showers.

Under 11 vs U10

Match report by Cai Laing – Under 11 Captain

🏏 Captains Match Report: Wisborough Green U11 vs U10
📅 Date: 30th August 2025
📍 Place Wisborough Green Cricket Ground
The Preparation
It started off bright and early at 8:30 we set everything up then at 9:15 we began the last match of the season. The pitch was damp, I won the toss and I chose to bowl first as it’s really hard to bat first when the ground is wet.

First Innings
We started off well with a wicket in the first over by James but after a while our luck ran out and we didn’t get another wicket until Seb took one in the 6th over. We kept pushing and Ollie took another wicket in the 8th over.
The 4th wicket was a run out off Quinns’s bowling and my amazing fielding (Skilled Shot 🙂)
Our final 2 wickets were taken by Arnau who bowled one and the second was caught.

The U10’s batting was extremely good and that was the last wicket we were able to take. Would we win this one is the questing we were all wondering.

Drinks and snacks
Thank you to the parents for the drinks and biscuits. They were brilliant.

Second Innings
Now we were batting we started off alright however Ethan and I lost 20 runs in the first pair due to us being a bit rusty and the 4 lost wickets. We were bowled out a bit more than I expected but that’s ok as it was a friendly and we were having fun.

Then the second pair came in Archie & Arnau and they got us up by 21 runs and lost 2 wickets taking our total to 220.

Then it was time for our third pair Quinn & Ollie at first it wasn’t looking well but managed to claw it back and end their pairing with our total on 222.

Finally it was our last pair our deadly duo Seb & James my bomb squad came in with James hitting the only four and them running some crucial singles and doubles and then driving us up to our total of 259 with the loss of only 2 wickets in the pair

Captains Comments
Thank you to my team for supporting my first try to captain the team and to all the U10’s parents and umpires for making this match possible

Well done to the U10’s on a well deserved win

Thank You

Match report by Isaac Broadhead – Under 10 Captain

For our final match of the season we played a friendly match against Wisborough Green under 11’s.

Expecting a tough match we were given a 25 run head start and we played a 20 over match with each partnership batting 5 overs each.

After losing the toss we were put in to bat first and started strong with Henry and Cooper, Henry getting two boundaries against some very strong and fast bowling, losing only one wicket.

Asher and Charlie were the final pairing to keep our good run score going. With mine and Charlie’s Dad watching on nervously, they both survived all five overs brilliantly without losing a wicket against some very good bowling. It was a fantastic way to secure a total of 297 runs for the U11’s to beat.

After the break which had some very yummy treats provided by Charlie’s Dad, we set out to try and stop them catching our total. Cooper bowled first and took an early wicket with Henry taking another soon after with his first bowl! Seth took 2 wickets in his first over with the second coming from brilliant fielding by Henry.

Asher took a wicket just after his Dad left and Seth continued to take more wickets with some great catches by Charlie and Cooper amongst some great fielding to stop conceding some close boundaries.
As Peter got very impatient for score updates near the end and final over, we managed to secure victory reducing the U11’s to just a 259 run total – meaning we would have won even without the 25 run head start!

Leo was deservedly man of the match.
It was a great feeling to be captain of the winning team and feel the team worked very hard and showed how much we have improved in recent weeks. A memorable close to the 2025 season!
