Match reports
First X1 vs Arundel
We are a roll at winning the toss – now to turn that into some match wins
• Hugo picks up two wickets in Arundel innings – oh no, that scorecards wrong on play cricket!
• Rainford and Dixon with wicket a piece as Arundel compile over 300 runs whilst only losing two wickets
• Dropped catches again costing WG important breakthroughs
• In response Wisborough top order fall quickly in a rush to keep up with the required rate
• Harry and Ollie rebuild with a nice partnership of 80 before Harry stumped trying to accelerate the scoreboard
• Farmer finally in the runs as him and Ollie put on over 100 run 6th wicket stand
• Ollie (75) with third successive 50
• WG bravely pushed on to 276 for 9 in our 40 overs, coming up 50 runs short
• Better catching and more patient batting from the top order could have changed things – perhaps?
On to the next one – the wins will come.

Second X1 vs Goring
Back to winning habits for the 2s on Saturday as managed to just get over the line after a much improved fielding performance on a hot day on the coast.
Putting the hosts in, we bowled straight, caught our catches and didn’t give them much to hit. Wickets fell regularly and we didn’t let any of the batters a chance to really settle on a tricky track that was full of surprises (more on that later). Joshy D was back his best – varying pace on a lovely offstump line. Monty Palmer hit the stumps twice and took two catches. Browny, Phil and Josh Braddock bowled nicely and Alex Martin cleared the tail with his brand of slow straight ones. Good job. Confidence high, knowing that we could take as long as we liked to chase the 91 required for victory.
Goodness we made it hard for ourselves. A combination of pitch, luck and, let’s face it, a lack of application lead to wickets tumbling on a regular basis. Only Steve Talman looked comfortable against bowlers who used the conditions favourably. We scraped over the line guided by the ice-cool temperaments of Browny and Phil. As they told me, it was never in doubt, but I am afraid that doubt might have set in at 70-7. No worries, 30 points in the bag and back on the Green next week against League stragglers Lancing Manor.

Under 12 vs Horsham Trinity
The Wisborough Green under 12’s should be really proud with their performance against Horsham Trinity. Despite the narrow loss (27 runs,) the bowling was tight and we saw Charlie Brown and Jack Brazier taking 2 wickets each. The fielding was also pleasing to see with three catches from Leo, Zachary and Dylan. Fielding was tight, Implementing all of the revised skills around backing up, walking in and staying alert in the field. Fortunately only 22 extras – which is a huge improvement on previous weeks and testament to the concentration of the fielders and training on Friday evening’s.
When it came to batting, the reality was everyone did well, we just lost wickets to some really good bowling. Leo had a notable score of 10 runs but looking at the oppositions scorecard, one of their bowlers bowled 2 overs for 2 maidens and taking an impressive 3 wickets. We can work on that in the nets.
It s always a pleasure to coach you and we continually welcome feedback from parents .
Have a good weekend.

Under 10 training game
An incredibly close encounter between Alex’s Wisborough Wanderers and Gus’s Wisborough Wizards with only 2 runs separating the teams at the end.
Thanks as always to all the parents for organising the refreshments and Finlay’s dad Andy who helped manage one of the teams.
Thank you also to Frankie and Ben – two under 11 players who were welcome additions to the teams this week.
Match report from Alex (age 10) – captain Wisborough Wanderers
It was a home game at Wisborough Green. There were two captains because it was only a practice match (Gus and Alexander). The weather was a tiny bit hot but good at the same time. Alexander’s team was called the Wisborough Wanderers and Gus’s team was called the Wisborough Warriors.
The Wisborough Wanderers won the toss and chose to bowl and field first, and the Wisborough Warriors were batting. There were a lot of wickets and there was great bowling from Henry, Isaac and Asher. Charlie made some good catches as a perfect wicketkeeper. The Wisborough Warriors finished batting and then it was the end of the first half.
In the second half the Wisborough Warriors were fielding and the Wisborough Wanderers were batting.
The Wisborough Warriors had some very good bowling, and in the ninth over, Cooper got an amazing three wickets in a row and Finlay caught the ball with one hand, which was pretty impressive.
The last pair was Alexander and Barnaby batting. They started to get a few runs then a couple of wides and then, in the second to last over, Seth bowled a wicket which meant the Wisborough Wanderers were losing by three runs. But in the same over, they hit a four and after that got one more for a two run difference at the end of the game. In the end it was two hundred and twenty to the Wisborough Warriors and two hundred and twenty two to the Wisborough Wanderers.
After the game the players all shook hands and then they huddled in their teams to pick a man of the match for each team. Gus chose Barnaby from the Wisborough Wanderers and Alexander chose Finlay from the Wisborough Warriors who were both great choices to be man of the match.

Match report from Gus (age 10) – captain – Wisborough Wizards
This week we played at Wisborough Green against Wisborough Green!
Peter kindly let us start later than usual so we had a little lie in!
We split the team in half for a friendly and named ourselves Wisborough Warriors and the opposition went for Wisborough Wanderers.
They won the toss and put us into bat. First up were George and Finley with a strong hit from George starting off the game. Finley did a great hit getting two runs shortly after. Batting continued strongly with Leo getting two fours with us finishing on 220 runs.
It was then our turn to field and Leo opened the bowling. Henry in the opposition had a great hit which was heading to the boundary but was stopped by Fin and Cooper with some amazing fielding. Cooper was a fantastic bowler getting a hat-trick! We were fielding very well and I caught out two of the opposition and Fin did a great one-handed catch. Frankie, Jack and Seth also contributed strongly by taking a wicket each.
The match ended 220 to 222. It was a very close game played in a competitive but friendly way.
Gus – Captain – Wisborough Wizards

Under 8 and 9 practice matches
This was our first practice match for this age group and for many the first time they had ever been involved in a proper game of pairs cricket
There were some hugely impressive performances from the boys and girls – putting on a show for the watching crowds
Every player batted and bowled, while learning about backing up, walking in and calling – all whilst giving each other positive encouragement along the way
