Match reports
First X1 vs Chichester Priory
Never in doubt……?
• Vickery wins the toss and decides to field on burning hot day – a bold call but surely chasing was the best way to win the game
• Chi started well – hitting the bad ball and conserving wickets
• Junior bowled well and was supported well by Hugo and then Dave
• Dave making a breakthrough with a delightful(ly poor) slower ball
• Will bowled tightly but with little to show for it
• Vickery gets Vickers to leave Chi 158-3 with 11 overs to go
• Dave and Will return for second spell and both pick up couple of wickets each
• Chi’s Hubbard presses for runs whilst completing hatrick of running his team mates out
• Chi all out for 261 with WG keeping things tight and limiting the damage well
• Crombie given out caught down the leg side second ball of WG inning – a total shocker
• After 7 overs WG were 14-1 and a fair bit behind the rate (current run rate of 2, required run rate 7.5)
• Vickery puts his foot down with next 10 overs going for 101, moving WG to 115 for 1 off 16 overs (current run rate 7.2, required run rate 6.4)
• Vickery falls for 83 in the 20th over with the score at 128
• 134 still required with 8 wickets in hand
• Tommy and Willbo continue to build the total at just under 6 an over
• Tommy falls for a solid 60
• Willboi runs Tarni ragged
• Junior (the finisher) in partnership with Hugo need 28 off the last three overs for the victory…..Chi think they are through us but lest they know of Crawley away 2024
• 38th over – lots of twos plus a boundary……12 scored
• 39th over – more twos plus two boundaries……. 12 scored
• 40th over – 4 required and Hugo delivers with exquisite drive back past the bowler
• A huge victory!!!
Can we go back to back to back – bring on Trin!

Second X1 vs Findon
Firstly, it would be remiss of me to congratulate the 2s on their barnstorming win against Lancing Manor last week. SCS, with 96, was swashbuckling and Callum got in the runs with a classy 71 not out, to get us to 280 for 7 in our 40. They never really seemed to want to chase and 3-18 from a returning Ran Dawson set up a comfortable victory and 60 points for the Green.
Onto the next home fixture, vs Findon who has beaten us comfortably early in the season. Very hot day, our bowlers found it difficult to hit the rights spots, especially against a one-shotted opener who loved anything straight which went through midwicket for boundaries. They built a total quickly and at one stage were looking liker 350 was a reasonable score, especially when we dropped about 5 catches. Refreshed by drinks Wizzy roared into action – we fielded tightly, Frank stemmed the flow of runs, and no one exemplified the hard work more than Harry Maggs who delivered staggering figures of 8 overs, 1 for 23, and backed up by a worldie from Dave McCullagh, and an era defining fielding performance from veteran aviator Charlie Maunder. Findon set 260 for 6, having been 115-1.
SCS continued his fine form with a trailblazing 50 in no time, but it wasn’t looking pretty when we found ourselves 70-3, and looking down the barrel. What happened next was highly emotional for yours truly – so please allow me to indulge a little. Monty Palmer came into join his father with a big hill to climb – and delivered a coming of age performance to put on 190 from 22 overs, winning the game by 7 wickets inside 34 overs. 80 not out, a wonderful knock, his first fifty, delivered with maturity and no shortage of talent. Well done to Monty (I would say that wouldn’t I…)
Another 60 points for the Green. Look out, we’re going places.

Under 11 vs Roffey
Match report by Bobby Spence (age 11)
With the sun shining and rain holding off, Wisborough repeated their June home win with another solid performance.
Roffey won the toss and chose to bat. Wisborough’s opening bowlers, Leo and Jack, struck early, with Leo’s accurate delivery leading to Jack’s run-out on the second ball. Clever fielding from Cai and Frankie limited Roffey’s scoring, preventing 4’s. Jack claimed another wicket, this time caught by Ben.
Roffey had close escapes. Freddie’s quick return to Bobby nearly ran out a batter, but the call was tight. Reuben’s straight bowling earned a wicket, but was unfortunately ruled out for being too high.
Buddy, came to the rescue, arriving just before the end of the innings to complete the team and this boosted morale as the wickets kept coming. Ben’s fast delivery led to Leo running out another batter and Ethan’s impressive spell—three wickets in two overs held Roffey to 265.
Wisborough’s turn to bat started with Ethan and Buddy, who took quick singles. Ethan hit a six, his first of the season, and added two fours. Their smart running kept the score healthy. Reuben and Freddie followed, playing confident shots and making brave runs.
Ben and Frankie maintained the flow, placing the ball in gaps for consistent scoring. Bobby and Cai kept up the pace with steady singles and doubles, Bobby finishing their spell with a well-placed four over the bowler.
Leo and Jack closed the innings strongly. Leo’s two fours dinked behind forced Roffey’s fielders to move around, allowing Jack and Leo to find more gaps with Wisborough finishing on 316 for the win.
Ethan was named Player of the Match by Roffey’s captain for his three wickets and 29 runs – this was deserved. The team spirit shone through, with Leo’s accuracy, Jack’s all-round play, Cai and Frankie’s fielding, Ben’s speed, Freddie and Reuben’s quick thinking, Bobby’s determination at the wicket, and Buddy’s great commitment and timely contribution.
A great win and ready for the next one!

Under 10 vs Balcombe
Match report by Barnaby Tullett (age 10)
This week we played our final league game against Balcombe. To prepare we had extra training on Thursday and Friday. We knew that Balcombe had at least one Sussex player and we really wanted to try and get a win!
When game day arrived, we got to the Balcombe pitch early to make sure we had enough time for a good warm up. It was a beautiful sunny day. We won the toss and decided to field first so that we would know what the target was when we were batting.
Charlie B bowled first and got a wicket with the first ball! Amazing! This was followed by a run out on the third ball. There were two great catches by Charlie and Henry.
George and Seth did great fielding stopping some fours. Everyone bowled really well, and the fielding was amazing. No sixes were scored and the opposition only managed a couple of fours.
Barnaby bowled two wickets when it was his turn, with the first two balls, Finlay bowled a wicket, Barnaby bowled another wicket. The opposition finished on 250 runs.
We then went into bat, Henry and Finlay were up first, and we had some terrific batting from them and Seth and Issac. By the end of the 8th over, we had 221 runs.
Jack and Asher came on third, and Jack hit an incredible 6! The first one of the season! They smashed the rest of their batting time and got us into a strong position. Charlie B hit a lovely 4 and the final pair to bat were Cooper and George. Cooper was on fire and hit 5 fours, we couldn’t believe it! We won the match with the final score being 250 to them and 325 to us. Our first win of the season and Jack Bowes got Man of the Match.
We played really well as a team.
