Another fantastic week of cricket to report on with some record breaking individual performances

Match Results

First X1 vs Barns Green

  • Barns Green win the toss on a scorcher of a day
  • Good opening spell from Junior and Hugo see Wizzy take early key wickets
  • Sizzler supports the opening spell with some really controlled left arm spin
  • BG put together a match winning partnership as loose balls from Malcolm and Law dispatched effortlessly to the boundary
  • Wizzy reply starts strongly enough with powerful hitting Malcolm sees us to 112 for 0
  • Malcolm almost beheads umpire Mattock with fierce straight drive
  • Great bowling from Barns Green spinners rip through Wizzy middle order
  • Wizzy all out for 189, chasing 240
  • Great knock again from Lawsy sees him 11 runs short of his ton
  • Lots of positives to take from the game

Second X1 vs Stirlands

  • Wittering traffic leads to game starting late as both teams get caught out
  • Wizzy win the toss and elect to field on a scorcher knowing its only going to get hotter
  • Dan Vickery claims sharp catch at gully to remove Stirlands opener who has 2 hundreds in the last 2 games.
  • Wizzy’s strong start continues as Stirlands fall to 75 for 5.
  • Stirlands fight back before heat takes its toll and careless running ends the innings on 228 in the 33rd over
  • A quick tea sees Josh having to share all the cheese and ham samwiches
  • Kenny gets himself out early which brings Joey Calder Smith to the crease
  • Steady partnerships see a tiring Stirlands allow Wizzy to get to 195 for 5
  • With 33 needed from 28 balls, Joey Calder Smith is joined by captain Frank Vickery and together with some quick running between the wickets and some sloppy fielding Green manage to reach 229 with 2 balls to spare.
  • Joey ends on his highest ever score of 94 no and Frank on 19 no
  • Wizzy in well deserved and hard fought victory !!

Under 14

  • Under 14’s put on a great display against a strong Horsham side which included of a number of Sussex players
  • Skipper Whittle wins the toss and elects to field
  • Horsham get off to a good start after some ordinary fielding
  • Wickets fall at regular intervals after Horsham opener retires on 42
  • Horsham post formidable 132 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs
  • Alex Phelp the best Green bowler after claiming 2 scalps for 29
  • Green get off to a good bad start as 2 wickets fall quickly
  • Ran Dawson and Richard Wilson stabilise innings
  • Richard goes on to retire on 40 after some classy batting
  • Green fall agonisingly short after courageous fightback
  • Coach Bonney praises players for noteworthy performance against a very good team.

Under 12 vs Rudgwick

WGCC U12s suffer first defeat of the season on the last ball of the match against Rudgwick

  • Green win the toss and elect to bat first.
  • Early wickets from some accurate bowling contains the run rate
  • William Reed battles successfully against the attack to retire unbeaten on 34.
  • The lower order succumb to straight bowling towards the end of the innings
  • WGCC ends up with 88 all out after 19.5 overs
  • Opening bowlers keep it tight and Rudgwick run well between the wickets
  • Ran Dawson and Joseph Reed reap rewards of accurate bowling with 2 wickets each
  • At the end Rudgwick need 5 runs off the final over
  • Rudgwick win on the final ball with a single
  • The closest of games which highlights the importance of batsmen staying at the crease to score runs and fielders putting everything into stopping runs.  A good lesson for all.
