Lots to report on again this week with our Girls team playing in their first ever match and our Sunday team up against The Sunday Society.

Colts training

Our under 5, 6 and 7 Colts will have their final training session of the season on Friday evening . The other Colts age groups will continue to train for the next few weeks and coaches will let parents know when their training sessions will come to an end.

Honours Boards for this week

Congratulations to all the players who feature on the Honours Boards this week.

Wedding bells

Congratulations to First team skipper Jonny Farmer on his marriage to Sami Minto on Saturday. Without doubt the best team selection made by Jonny and the start of a great partnership.

Sunday Team vs The Cricket Society

  • On the hottest day of the year we won the toss and elected to bat knowing that wicket would get better as the sun-baked down on it, but wanted to set a score and hope the opposition’s energy would be sapped having spent time out in the middle under the sun.
  • The opposition – The Cricket Society was an eclectic mix made up mainly of gentlemen who looked like cricket academics and lovers of the purest type of cricket (test matches)
  • The saying ‘never play tennis for money against a grey hair player’ – couldn’t have rung truer in this case albeit in a cricket context!
  • Ran and Kenny opened the batting with Ken hitting a scrumptious ball through the covers for 4, before being bowled next ball with a tastey nip backer in the first over. Ran fell soon afterwards – missing a straight one that dipped on him last minute… 18-2 in 3 overs.
  • Mick, Matthew and Eddie Ragg managed to stabilise the ship and laid a platform for Will Dixon to top score with 65 runs in quick succession, posting what we thought was a competitive total of 223-8. A special mention must go to the 74 year old oppo player who picked up 2 wickets.
  • Spoilt with fast bowling options in our ranks we started well, picking up a plumb LBW decision in the 3rd over.
  • We continued to toil away, remaining strong in the field believing one would bring two but as the deck dried out, and the batsmen got set and made full use of the edges off their bats and the short boundary the total looked a touch short.
  • A change of tactic to take pace off the ball proved fruitful and yielded another wicket LBW, however, the onslaught and grey-haired experience proved tough.
  • Will Dixon bowling off-breaks dislodged their main man, however, they chased down the total in the 33rd over.
  • An opposition player disagreeing with an umpire’s call was a slight shadow on the game however on the whole they were lovely oppo who enjoyed the day on the green.
  • Onwards and upwards for the next match! Special mention to Eddie Ragg for his 37, 3 overs of bowling and stepping up to keep wicket!

Girls Team vs Chiddingfold

On Saturday 17th July Wisborough Green hosted the first ever girls match in the history of the cricket club against Chiddingfold.

We turned out a full side of a mixed U9, U13 and U15 girls team and Wisborough Green won the match by 85 runs to 65 bringing home the newly donated Ashes cup.

Lauren Wilkins won best overall player and Joanna Nicholls, the youngest player on the team, won the best effort medal. It was a great game which we will repeat next year as a tournament

Well done girls
