Have another great cricketing week. #UpTheGreen Cheers Wizzy   Match Reports Firsts vs Broadbridge Heath The Sun was shining on another hot day in West Sussex and the wicket was looking in top order. Wisborough won the toss and had no hesitation in batting on a good looking wicket and 25 degree heat. Wisborough got off to an excellent start with Tim Dodd and Benjamin Steyn starting to hit the bowling to all parts. Tim Dodd was the first to go for 28 with the score on 67. George Magnus and Benjamin Steyn then took the score to 114, with Steyn attacking the bowling and Magnus playing the anchor role. After Magnus was dismissed LBW for 14, in came Jamie Self. Benjamin Steyn quickly followed Magnus after a well crafted 73. James Sadler replaced Steyn on 130 for 3 and started to rebuild having lost a few quick wickets. But then Self was unluckily LBW for 7. DJ Dominique then helped Sadler push the score past 200. Sadler was in good form knocking a powerful 58 before being bowled in the last over. DJ also batted sensibly for 15. Steyn opened the bowling down the hill but struggled with his line and length . Hugo March had much more success and bowled his inswing  with precision. Steyn was replaced after 2 overs by Jonny Farmer who was straight into the action removing the dangerous Jordan Ruff for 21, and then the other opener Tim Wells for 10. Hugo bowled their number 3, and Wisborough were on their way. Matt Atkins then smashed 41 and looked dangerous but was losing wickets at the other end. Tim Dodd finally removed Atkins and bowled tightly getting 2 wickets for 5 runs. Hugo March 2 for 30 , Jamie Self 3 for 16, Tom Colbran 1 for 2 along with Jonny Farmer 2 for 32, all contributed brilliantly to bowl Broadbridge Heath out for 116. Good around performance and building some momentum.   Sunday team vs Andy Gough XI This Sunday saw a mixture of both youth and experience assemble on the Green for a 40 over contest against the Andy Gough XI. Andy and his team, looking to even the score after WG won a thrilling 6 a side tournament in 2016. Andy won the toss and on a scorching day, had no hesitation in selecting to bat. WG were extremely excited for an afternoon in the sun and were swift to express this to skipper Self. Wisborough took to the field and it wasn’t long before Hugo March continued his fine form from Saturday and removed Armstrong in his first over. March, Self and Napper continued to test the top order and kept things tight until a 3rd wicket partnership between the imperious Caldwell brothers turned the tide. It wasn’t until Hugo was reintroduced in the 26th over that the partnership was broken, with the score sitting at 168-3. Despite this breakthrough the Gough XI continued to score quickly on a lightning outfield. With James Caldwell nearing a well deserved century, Self turned to the young import, Benjamin Steyn and his “Southern Hemisphere grit” was soon on show. Steyn ripped through the middle order, and showed his credentials for a Test debut at Trent Bridge on Friday. The Andy Gough XI, amassed 254-8 from their 40 overs and WG knew they had quite a chase on their hands. After tea was enjoyed by all (especially the underrated Cucumber sandwiches!), it was up to Byron Napper and Benjamin Steyn to set the foundation for a mammoth chase. It didn’t take long for Benji to impose himself on the bowling. WG raced onto 62-0 in the 7th over before an “uncharacteristic” rush of blood from Steyn saw him try to hit a slower ball to Billingshurst and get caught behind for 47. The next 4 overs saw the Andy Gough XI turn the screw, reducing WG to 90-4 in a flash. Hughie Ragg, Calum Price and Andy Thompson all falling victim to some consistent, testing bowling. Skipper Self joined Napper and the crease, and with plenty of overs left, knew they had to set about rebuilding the innings. Some intelligent and trusting quick singles combined with the punishment of bad deliveries steadied the ship and drew WG closer to their target of 256. Byron continued to lead the charge and brought up a brilliant 100, dispatching a ball over square leg. The unbroken stand of 166 between Napper (114*) and Self (80*) saw WG home with 7 balls to spare. Certainly a memorable run chase on the Green. A brilliant game played in a great spirit between the two sides, and I hope this is the start of a regular fixture! I’d like to thank all the lads that played for me on Sunday. Everyone played their part on a very warm afternoon. A special thanks to Leslie for scoring her 3rd match of the weekend; to Byron and Chloe for aiding me in some great tea making; and to all those who came down to support the team on Sunday. It’s great to see such support, and I for one enjoy being a part of Sunday cricket on the Green. Jamie Self   Under 9 vs Southwater  Monday afternoon at Collard’s field saw the U9’s  take on the unbeaten league leaders Southwater Southwater won the toss and sent Wisborough Green in to bat. The Wisborough Green Colts batted very well against a strong bowling attack. All the pairs, Joseph and Dexter, Finn and Rufus, Brooke and Georgina and William Reed and Charlie, contributed positive totals to our score. Congratulations to Joseph who was our highest scorer with 15 runs. A great team performance with the bat- Wisborough Green finished their innings on a total score of 250 off their 16 overs. The Wisborough Green Colts did a great job restricting Southwater’s total as much as possible with some very good bowling and fielding. Well done to Charlie, Finn and Rufus who were the joint highest wicket takers for Wisborough Green. Southwater finished their innings on a total score of 308 off their 16 overs. All in all a very good team performance by the Wisborough Green Colts with notable improvements in batting, bowling and fielding.
