Message from the Chairman

Message from our Chairman – Steve Calder Smith As the summer beckons it is time to check the old kit bag and see if you remembered to wash it at the end of last season or whether new purchases are required. We are all filled with hope that one glorious innings, catch or bowling spell is still in the locker as we look forward to cricket once again. Cricket is never an easy game on the pitch and it can be equally rewarding/unrewarding off the pitch. Behind the scenes there are many working hard to prepare the wicket, ensure registrations for the league are done ,collect subscriptions, update the website, comply with the requirements of the ECB, service the equipment, repair the green. Much time has been spent in many rooms doing this over the winter and not without trials and tribulations along the way. A big thank you for all the helpers and volunteers who have made a season of cricket possible. I would like to particularly thank our sponsors new and old for their support and ask that all members do the same if they have a chance. This year we have a new main sponsor with AJW supporting the club and shirt graphics are being adapted hopefully in time for the first game. We would also like to thank all the other sponsors who are supporting the club. Their logos can be found on this news release. Throughout the summer there will be numerous people who give their time free to support the development and playing of cricket and you will see most of their names in the fixture card. A big thank you to you all whether you are a coach, captain, team administrator, website administrator, green coordinator, manager, taxi driver, umpire scorer, hedge cutter, painter, equipment repairer, ball orderer, match fee collector, score reporter, work on the grounds or just turn up to support the club. Without you there would be no cricket so as a player I will thank you now and hope you receive much thanks and appreciation from all the players throughout the season. We are lucky to play on an idyllic village green that has seen cricket played on it for at least 275 years. As a club it is our responsibility to invite anyone into it who would like to play or participate in some way so if you know of anyone who is interested in playing even a couple of games, scoring or umpiring or supporting the club in anyway then put them in touch with Wizzy through Wizzy News or myself or James Sadler. It is also our responsibility to ensure that we respect the green and its surroundings and I ask that all please support the club by ensuring that at the end of each and every practice session everything is packed up and tidied away and the green is left spotless so that the next users be they stool ball, touch rugby or simply walkers or picnickers can see and use the green at its best. So here’s looking forward to a season of good games, fun , competition, personal and team success camaraderie and friendship and hospitality to all our guests. LET THE SEASON BEGIN
