Welcome to this week’s Wizzy News.

Another great week of cricket to report on again this week with a number of our teams in action.

As the season progresses its always good to see how the performances of some of our senior players fare against other players in their division.

Honours board for the week

Congratulations to all the players who made it onto the honours boards this week.

Match Highlights

First X1 vs Pagham

  • Green complete all round display of the season as they blow away Pagham 2’s
  • Law continues fine form with the bat after hitting 66
  • DJ, Stu and Talcs also in the runs with 31 a piece
  • Doddy and Hoppo weigh in with good contributions
  • Green set Pagham target of 271 to win
  • Pagham come out blocking in 40:40 as Green dominate with the ball.
  • Rainford and Self create the early pressure
  • Only Farmer misses out on the Pagham harvest
  • Catching at its finest since the Wisborough Green fishing competition in 2001 as DJ, Sizzler, Law and Doddy make light work of tough chances
  • Next stop the seaside for the Green

Second X1 vs Crawley Eagles

  • Second X1 featuring 7 young guns and 4 Francis’ miss out on victory against Crawley Eagles 4th X1
  • Five under 14’s or younger colts (Oli Warmington, Alex Philp, Harry Dancaster , Ben Carpenter and Harry Hunter) handed senior debuts in thrilling encounter
  • 2018 batsman of the year , Callum Price , looks to defend title with half century. Commentators curse puts end to innings
  • Jimmy and John Francis in the runs too, as Green set 150 total.
  • Frank Vickery on fire with the ball, as he claims 6 -32
  • Harry Hunter claims first senior wicket . Other colts unlucky to not take wickets too.
  • Fine fielding display with great catches from Oli Warmington, Ben Carpenter and Chris Francis
  • Skipper Francis comes to realisation that death bowling is possibly not his greatest attribute as he is launched for 6 to see Crawley over the line with 9 wickets down.

Under 14 vs Horsham

  • Under 14’s put into bat against strong Horsham side which includes 5 Sussex players
  • Skipper Joe Bonney gets innings off to a good start with some great shots
  • Harry Hunter continues good form with the bat to finish off with 18 not out
  • Green set oppo target of 94 to win after 9 wickets fall
  • Horsham get off to a good start as bowlers stick to their task
  • Zac Whittle, Hamish Ramsay and Joe Bonney bag a wicket each
  • Good fielding from the Green restricts the extras
  • Horsham’s Sussex batsman retires on 40
  • Oppo reach their target with just over 2 overs to spare.
  • Team congratulated for a good performance against a very strong side
  • Coach Bonney calls for more runs with the bat and improved fielding which was average at times

Under 12’s vs Lindfield

Under 12’s continue the 2019 season unbeaten with a great team performance against a strong opposition

  • Green lose the toss and sent in to bat
  • Tom Bonney in fine form and top scores with 33 no
  • Stong oppo bowling restricts Green batsmen
  • Green end with a total of 97 runs after allotted 20 overs
  • Three Bridges restricted with great bowling from William Reed, Tom Bonney, Ran Dawson, Joseph Reed, Isaac Paisley, Emily Reed and Alex Greaves 
  • Great effort in the field from all players to restrict Three Bridges run total
  • Wren Fawcett praised for magnificent performance behind the stumps keeping byes to a minimum
  • Leading wicket taker William Reed shines with the ball with 2 for 13
  • Ran Dawson makes another valuable contribution with the ball and takes a scalp for only 8 runs
  • Three Bridges finish with 85 for 4 off their 20 overs

Well done to our captain Ran Dawson and great collective team effort contributing to the win. Congratulations to the entire Team!

Pizza on the Green

Great news – in addition to the usual BBQ , homemade Pizza will be served on the balcony on the Green on FRIDAY 31ST May. Please support local villager Buster who will also be selling homemade breads for the weekend
